- Most people -do- buy products based on brand and not on merit, and Microsoft
- understands this. So does Peter Norton. But I think that by-and-large
- developers do not. Developers are fond collectors of software and frequently
- own (or "posess") or have recently evaluated copies of nearly everything. If
- it's better, "cool!" If it's not, "dog bait." (Programmers have a peculiar
- but succint vernacular...)
-
- But the more revenue-producing software you own that was written in a
- particular system, the less likely you are to want to "dump it" for any
- reason. That will always be the case in life.
-
- Visual Basic won't die, and neither (now) will Delphi, because it would not
- make business sense for a lot of companies to let it do so. And you won't see
- Microsoft doing any such thing because, hell, they SELL it and make a lot of
- MONEY from it. :-)
